Low-volume Manufacturing Supplier Checklist
Compare custom-part supplier quotations using a consistent design revision, quantities, inspection scope and delivery requirements.
Create a common scope
Send the same CAD and drawing revisions to each supplier. Separate initial quantity, repeat demand and any tooling ownership or storage requirements. Require proposed substitutions to be identified.
Check what the price includes
Compare material, finishing, inspection, packaging, tooling and shipping scope. Ask which design assumptions need resolution before the quote can become an order.
Plan supply-chain communication
Provide the delivery destination and any required shipping documentation. Agree on the contact person, revision control and approval process. Confirm timing with the supplier against the specific order, rather than using a generic website lead time.
